Star Ginkgo Mixed Media

Starry starry night...
This is the first of three small ginkgo mixed media pieces I created.  Stars are cut out a pressed and preserved leaf.  The background includes watercolor, ribbons, papers, and beads.  The entire piece is sealed to prolong its life.

These pieces belong to my ginkgo loving mother, but I hope to find time to make some to sell again soon.  Any ideas for new gingko art?  I had a leaf that was shaped like butterfly wings but I lost it...

Welcome!

Welcome to my art blog!

I will be posting some of my artwork, but for now please check out my Facebook page to see my current and past art....

Art by Jayme Gilchrist:

The great dream artist, Marc Chagall, once said, "That great art picks up where nature ends." I look to the world around me for inspiration.  I often take pictures of the natural beauty outside, saving them to use for desk clutter… I mean painting references.
In my day-to-day life I enjoy  watching my students create and getting in touch with my own creative side.

I work mostly in watercolor, mixed media, and pen and ink.  I really enjoy the transparency and challenge of working with watercolor.  If it isn’t right the first time, you have to start over . . . it can be annoying but mostly it makes me feel lucky.  Mixed media brings a whole new dimension and character to a piece of art; it makes me feel like I’m putting together an outfit or a puzzle… the outcome is always unique and my own.  And pen and ink is detailed, precise, and technical… it lets my inner organizational freak out.

Me on a fall hike!
